Articles of Incorporation
 

  • Article of Incorporation acts as the organization's legal birth certificate and needs to be filed with the state to officially create the nonprofit entity; this document should include details like the organization's name, registered agent information, business address, and a statement of purpose.

Obtain an EIN 

  • The GB needs to obtain an employer identification number (EIN) from the IRS, serving as the organization’s social security number. The GB can apply for the EIN at no cost by submitting Form SS-4 to the IRS.

Adopt Nonprofit Bylaws 
& Apply for 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt status

  • The NoVA GB has existing bylaws, yet they require further refinement. These nonprofit bylaws define the roles and responsibilities of officers and directors, detail procedures for recording meeting minutes, and address other crucial aspects of the organization’s daily operations.

  • Apply for State Nonprofit Tax Exemptions. Applying for state tax exemptions usually involves submitting an application to the department of revenue in each state where the GB organization operates.
